A Magnetic Keyholder
From Nicko...
Back in March, 2012, I noticed something interesting on my commute to work on the CTA Blue line Congress train: Somebody had created an apiary along abandoned railroad tracks that run parallel to the Blue Line, near the shuttered Central Ave. Blue Line station. Since I am all about nature and bees and stuff, I thought this was a wonderful thing to behold, and decided to investigate further.
It was a few weeks before I was able to get out there in a car, and I was surprised to find that you can actually drive up to this location, and doubly surprised to find a wonderful sculpture near a foundry that was just begging for a geocache. The bee hives might be transitory, but this sculpture is certainly not going anywhere without a lot of effort.
I suspect that one of the factories back here are maintaining this apiary, but I cannot be sure. If anyone has info about this endeavor, please send it on to us.
I snapped a bunch of photos and immediately sent them to my geocaching mentor, Panther in the Den (PID), and suggested that this might be a wonderful spot for a geocache.
PID and I went out to the site today, checked out the bees, and placed an attractive cache in a spot that is easy to get to, and just fun, if you like industrial sorta environments.
When you are looking for this cache, keep a low profile.
And please to not mess with the bees.
