Geocache Description:

This is the third cache in our series Views of Kingskerswell.

Milber Lane runs from the village of Coffinswell through to the Milber area of Newton Abbot. On the western side of the lane Kingskerswell can be seen and the area has been extensively quarried. On the eastern side of the lane lies Milber Down.

Milber Down is an Iron Age hill fort on the hill above the area of Milber. The fort is situated on the north-western slope of Milber Down at about 110 metres above sea level and is bisected by the minor road that leads to Barton, Torquay.

It is estimated that the fort was occupied from the early 1st century BC until peacefully abandoned in the early 1st century AD. The site was excavated in 1937 & 38 during which a great deal was learnt about the site, its construction and its inhabitants. Several important archaeological finds have been made at or near the site and these are now in the Torquay Museum. One Iron Age artefact discovered there was a figurine of a stag.

The terrain is suitable for pushchairs or buggies but not wheelchairs. You could do this as a cache & dash as it’s only about 700’ from the road. You are looking for a 300ml screw top container – happy hunting.
