Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma) are a genus of lizards which are the type genus of the family Phrynosomatidae. The horned lizard is popularly called a "horned toad", "horny toad", or "horned frog", but it is neither a toad nor a frog. The popular names come from the lizard's rounded body and blunt snout, which make it resemble a toad or frog. (Phrynosoma literally means "toad-bodied".) The spines on its back and sides are made from modified scales, whereas the horns on the heads are true horns (i.e. they have a bony core). There are 15 species of horned lizards in North America, eight of which are native to the United States. The largest-bodied and most widely distributed of the U.S. species is the Texas horned lizard (P. cornutum).

This is my TCU tribute puzzle. Being from Fort Worth as long as I can remember (I moved here when I was 6 months old), TCU was always the school I hoped would be successful. I know a lot of people who attended TCU including many of the people I went to school with. Finally the last few years the TCU football team has had success and this year their defense is fantastic. The last couple of weeks has turned this season into a good good year at best, but hope for greater things next year. Oh yeah, how does this relate to the puzzle? It takes a genus to figure out the key to this one.

This cache was adopted by Lotus, me, in June 2019. This series has a very special place in my heart. I had hidden and solved many puzzles prior to The Code Book; however, this series was my first true deep dive into ciphers. It opened many doors for me, in terms of how I thought about designing puzzles and also in steps I now take to solve them. It is an honor for me to adopt this series as I want to ensure its longevity.
