Geocache Description:

I  have enjoyed hiding caches for everyone, and I've wanted to make them fun and educational for everyone. I am an aviation enthusiast ans so I decided to start a series on aviation - I hope you will enjoy it!

This is the second in my series called "Airplane Lovers, which I call "THREE FIVE LEFT". Here is why ...

Delbert Road happens to be straight in line with a runway called "THREE FIVE LEFT. Airplanes that are cleared for landing on this runway will line up in a direction of 350 degrees, and since there are two of them, they are called "LEFT" and "RIGHT". They will sometimes line up on this heading for about 20-30 miles out. In other words, you might see them flight straight over Delbert Road as they line for landing on this runway, a good place to see all kinds of airplanes fly over.

Denver is huge international airport. It has6 long runways pointed in many directions to accommodate the changing winds (airplanes try to land 'into the wind' as much as possible), and can land just about any kind of aircraft - almost. More on that in my cache on A380's. The two runways that are used the most frequent for landing though are "THREE FIVE LEFT" and THREE FIVE RIGHT". When the winds are more westerly the landing pattern will switch to "TWO SIX". As you already guessed, those numbers relate to the magnetic heading of the runway

THIS IS A TOP-DOWN VIEW OF DENVER INTERNATIONAL.

Denver is very busy place! This Google Earth snapshot gives you an idea with all the runways going everywhere. Now you can see the directions they take. The lower two are Runway "THREE FIVE LEFT" and THREE FIVE RIGHT".
