Geocache Description:

Thornhill "Really Side Tracked"

This cache lies on the side of the old Witney to Fairford branch line which was operated by the Great Western railway between 1873 and 1962. A very comprehensive website with the history of this line can be found here. My thanks go to Martin Loader for the permission to use the picture below and for the information on his site.
The station down the line at Fairford

Several parts of this line are still quite well marked, but at this point the line disappears, as the land has been reclaimed for farming. It reappears the other end of the field. I have named this cache after the farm nearby.

The cache is a small Bison container near to an old remnant of the line. It does not contain a pencil,so please bring your own.

ย Parking is on the old "Salt Way" road between Lechlade and Quenington. I would not recommend parking on the main road to the south as the farmer has not cleared the footpath.
