Geocache Description:

Interesting history may be found about curling in Carnoustie, and for the twinning between Maule ion France and Carnoustie.... http://www.carnoustie-twinning.org.uk/

Angus Libraries some time ago produced a leaflet - Carnoustie Discovery Trail and I have placed some caches along the route so that the visitor can see and learn a little about Carnoustie.
The Discovery Trail starts at Carnoustie Library and Tourist Information Centre, opened in 1976. My caching route starts there also and covers the same ground as the Discovery Trail but in reverse. You can start wherever you want:  High St (A930) up Lochty St, left along Maule St, right up Queen St, across the park, down Balmachie Rd and West Path, across Dundee Rd (A930) and along Camus St and Golf St towards the sea, over the railway bridge at Golf St station, left along Links Parade, out to the east end of the beach, back along the beach, up Ferrier St and right along High St back to the library (or continue along Links Parade to Carnoustie station).Tourist information.

Going up Lochty St you come to the Bowling Club at the corner, and opposite is the Episcopal church of the Holy Rood, built in 1881, a miniature copy of Brechin Cathedral.
Nearby is a small quiet area with a structure that can be flooded in cold weather as a curling pond or used for 'boules' in the summer months. Why? Look at the sign to the town of Maule, Carnoustie's twin. Which country and how far?
