Situated in the Kaimanawa Forest Park, the Kaipo Swinger keeps your feet dry as you cross the Kaipo River as it flows down to meet the Oamaru River at the confluence of the Mohaka River.
The cache is a 540ml rectangular camo sistema container
At the time of placement it contained a logbook and pencil,
survival blanket, waterproof matches and pencil sharpener
You cannot drive to this cache, though it is possible to mountain bike from Clements Mill Road [Grade 5 Experts only recommended]. This is best suited to reasonably fit and experienced trampers. Make sure you are suitably equipped for the conditions found in New Zealand’s bush country.
A popular access is from Clements Mill Road. From Taupo, travel 27 km east along State Highway 5 (Napier-Taupo Road) and turn right into Taharua Road. After 9 km along Taharua Road, turn right onto Clements Mill Road and travel 6.2 km to the Te Iringa track carpark. Drive with extreme caution and lights on. This bush road is well surfaced and maintained, but is narrow and busy.
Walk from the carpark, over Te Iringa and on down to the Kaipo River. This could take you 4½ to 5½ hours (one way). Alternatively, a 1½ to 2½ hour walk up the Kaipo River from the Oamaru Hut should get you close.

Many people use the swing bridge area to stay overnight, as there is a large area of flat ground perfect for fly camping. If you are lucky, the previous user has left a stack of firewood for your campfire beside the fireplace.
