The cheetah lives primarily in Southern Africa. The cheetah is one of four of the Big Cats and is by far the fastest being clocked at speeds of 70 to 75 mph. Since the cheetah is not as large or as strong as a lion or tiger it often sticks to prey under 100 pounds. It will often focus its attention on the gazelle or springbok rather than the larger hoof-stock such as a zebra or wildebeest.
After becoming an adult, a male cheetah will often join up with other males, up to 3, to form a group called a coalition. Males are very territorial and these coalitions help to obtain and hold an areas across Africa. Males will also often work together to take down prey.
Females are the complete opposite. They are not typically territorial animals and often have their home range overlap with other females. Female cheetahs are solitary creatures except when they are raising their young. During the first two years of a cheetahs life are spent learning how to hunt and avoid predators.
