Rush County was founded in 1822 and named after Dr. Benjamin Rush, signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Rush County was the birth place of a world champion lightweight boxer. With 81 wins, 55 by KO and only 9 losses, Fifty Years At Ringside exclaimed him "#1 Lightweight of All Time" and Ring Magazine listed in the top 100 punchers of all time.

He starred in movies, theater and had seemed to be on top of the world. Life eventually took a spiral.

Through ten marriages, murdering his wife (convicted of manslaughter) and at age 67 taking his own life in a hotel room he left the world as he came into it, with a signature of his birth given name ____________ ( ________)
