Geocache Description:

This is not the original pier. The first pier, called the Fisherman's Pier, was a little way south of here.
This newer pier, know as the Steamer Pier, was needed to allow access to deeper water for the Steamers carring people and goods to Queenscliff.

That hasn't put off the fishermen around here though, when I was setting this cache, there were seventy squid rods dipping into the water at dusk!

The Steamers have long since departed, and if you try and bring a boat up to this pier, you will get a lot of filthy looks as rods are reluctantly removed.

This cache will take you for a short walk out along the pier.

The starting co-ordinates bring you to the first sign of five, have a read, answer the questions, then look at all the others.

1. a new approach
This describes why just after the cache was put here, the pier was dismantled, and what they have done to it (the pier, not the cache!).

2. a legacy of the rip
In what year did SS Time's time run out? EFGF
How many other wreck sites are in the Discovery trail? EC

3. treading the boards
the old pier was built in? EHKB

4. Steaming to a new shore
When did Chas. Henry Hardy have nice things to say about here? EHJK
When did the steamers peak? EFEB
when did the last of the steamers finish? EFGC

5. to the rescue
More than how may years did the Lifeboat shed house the lifeboat? AB
How many shillings was a call out worth? CD
How many kilometers did they have to walk in 1887, carting their gear? EC

6. The Waiting shed
This is where you sat waiting for the steamers, unless the wind was up, then it would blow you right through.
There are rings of steel in the roof supports, how many in the shed? CJ

7. The Lifeboat Shed
The lifeboat would be flung down the ramp out the back of the shed (once it stuck in the sand, and they had to wait for the tide to float them off!).
There are slatted windows on the beach side - how many in the row? K

8. Now, back down the pier to GZ, which if you have the right numbers, can be found at AH EK.BAE EGG AF.FAG
