Geocache Description:

The River Eden cuts a short but impressive gorge here.  The Northern Viaduct Trust constructed a path and built the Millennium Bridge which was opened in 2000.

The image shows an aerial view of the bridge. Below is a very impressive area of limestone erosion. These are the types of erosion that can effect rocks like limestone
  • Abrasion - where the rock surface is scraped by other rocks and particles carried in the water (or wind)
  • Corrosion - where rocks are broken down by chemicals and/or processes acting on them such as acid contact, heating, or rusting
  • Hydraulic Action - where the action of the water itself erodes the rock
  • Freeze-thaw - where water freezes in the cracks of the rock, expands and contracts with changing temperatures and eventually the rock erodes

If you visit, email me
  • 1 The name of the person who opened the bridge
  • 2 The size of the swirlpot below the road bridge and
  • 3 the type of erosion occurring here.

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[Please be very watchful of any children you have with you - limestone is extremely slippery when wet]
