The River Eden cuts a short but impressive gorge here. The Northern Viaduct Trust constructed a path and built the Millennium Bridge which was opened in 2000.
The image shows an aerial view of the bridge. Below is a very impressive area of limestone erosion. These are the types of erosion that can effect rocks like limestone
- Abrasion - where the rock surface is scraped by other rocks and particles carried in the water (or wind)
- Corrosion - where rocks are broken down by chemicals and/or processes acting on them such as acid contact, heating, or rusting
- Hydraulic Action - where the action of the water itself erodes the rock
- Freeze-thaw - where water freezes in the cracks of the rock, expands and contracts with changing temperatures and eventually the rock erodes

[Please be very watchful of any children you have with you - limestone is extremely slippery when wet]
