Geocache Description:

Yowie 3747  Cache#: 6  - Around the Lake

This cache is located along an established walking track around Lake Sambell, down below the Pobblebonk Frog Pond. Please Note: Although it is an established walking track, it can be slippery when wet, so please take care.

Lake Sambell is located within the township of Beechworth. It was the site of the Rocky Mountain Mining Company  ( GC1RYBE: Rocky Mountain Tunnel ) open cut sluice operation during the mid 1800s and the early 1900s.

In the 1920s the area was created into a man-made recreational lake and reserve for the citzens of Beechworth. Today it is used for swimming, fishing, walking, cycling and other forms of recreational use.
You can access GZ along the walking track from the included Waypoint where you can also park.

Along the track on your way to GZ you will pass by the Wetlands Filter Pond which is inhabited by Pobblebonk Frogs and their distinctive call can often be heard especially after a good rain.

Wetlands Filter Pond Wattle Lake View

There’s a little brown frog jumping in the water
A little brown frog doing what he ought-er
He took a bite of the lily pad,
He kicked his legs and he said, “I’m glad
I’m a little brown frog jumping in the water
Pobblebonk, Pobblebonk

The cache contains a log book along with a pen & small swaps.
Please make sure the log book bag is sealed up and the lid on the cache is secure when you return it, as it can get very wet at this location at times.

Once you have made the find continue on all the way around,
there's still fun to be had with more to be found.

Happy Hunting, have Fun and Enjoy your walk Around the Lake.
