Scraptoft Natural Burial Ground is on a gentle slope in a quiet valley in one of the most attractive and historic areas of Leicestershire. The brook along the northern edge of the area already provides a valuable wildlife refuge. Woodland with open wild-flower glades is being created as the burial ground develops. Several thousand trees and shrubs have already been planted. There is NO need to disturb the tranquillity of the burial ground to find the cache.
This cache was placed near the Natural Burial Ground in the memory of Karen’s late uncle and aunt, Peter and Sylvia Markham; this is their final resting place. There is no need to disturb the burial ground by entering to find the cache. Repeat for those who are hard of hearing: THERE IS NO NEED TO DISTURB THE BURIAL GROUND BY ENTERING TO FIND THE CACHE!
Peter Markham was a sports fanatic. He was a leading light in the Race Walking Association, his athletics discipline, but was a mentor to young athletes, keen on boxing and horse-racing, football (both he and Sylvia were Leicester City season ticket holders), in fact all sport.
Sylvia started out watching her husband take part in race walking events, before became a national official and progressed to being an Olympics Games judge. Peter and Sylvia travelled all over the world as officials at numerous international athletics events, including Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
