Geocache Description:

We have visited this area 2-3 times a day for a over a week because our home on wheels, DA PAD, was being repaired.  We almost had to call this our Home Away From Home.  Tucumcari is such a small town it can easily be explored and cached in a couple of days. Sometimes compared to Radiator Springs from the movie, Cars, take time to appreciate the Route 66 history this town has. Congratulations to taztaz25 for the FTF

The name of this cache was chosen because in 2012 we spent over a week in Tucumcari having our Home on Wheels repaired.  We visited this area so often we said this was our Home Away From Home.  Our caching friends, Donna & Bob AKA Fub'd, said since we have spent so much time here, we should at least place a cache. So we did.

Here's a piece of history on the Tucumcari cemetery:
The first Tucumcari cemetery was located west of Tucumcari and north of the current location of the cemetery. A new cemetery known as "Sunnyside: was later begun. The first burials took place about 1903. This name was changed in the late 1930s, to Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery after completion of a rock wall surrounding the cemetery by the CCC boys. The Civic Works Committee announced in 1935 the opening of the acreage west of, and adjoining the cemetery, enlarging the cemetery from eight to more than 30 acres. The above info came from the 1997 book "In the Shadow of the Mountain - Living in Tucumcari" by Debra Ann Whittington.
