It was established in 1961 primarily to facilitate an annual Family Camp.
Since then the camping programme has enlarged to include a series of Youth Camps in the School holidays.
The grounds were developed to enable camps to be contained on-site if they wish however the ocean beach is less than a half hour walk and the river estuary (and two other caches!) only minutes away. The Manawatu River Estuary draws visitors keen to see the 2000 birds and up to 58 species known to flock there over the northern winter and is a stopover for many rare and migratory birds.
Foxton township is being developed as an historical town and offers horse-drawn tram and trolley bus rides, a fully functioning Dutch windmill, flax museum, and an Audiovisual Museum. Foxton Beach School is the site of an astronomical observatory.
The cache is a 200ml Systema container placed during a Church Family Camp during the school holidays.
5 minute averaging on my GPSr claimed that the coordinates are +/- 2m accuracy
