The Rutland Round
The Rutland Round is a circular walk of about 65 miles round the County of…….. have a guess. Although it is a footpath around Rutland, it only once follows the County boundary, and that is between Thistleton and Teigh. Diversions are also made to visit Oakham, and Rutland Water.
The route is well waymarked with an acorn device set in a yellow arrow placed on a dark green background. There is also an excellent book called The Rutland Round, written by John Williams, and available from Rutland Water Tourist Information Centre, Sykes Lane, Empingham. The book starts the walk from Oakham, but you can of course start from wherever you like, and do as much, or as little as you like.
The route is split into five sections, and where there was not an obvious name for the cache the name of a bird has been used.
Section 2. Thistleton to Oakham. 13 miles
The walk continues from section one, and is in the main fairly easy walking. Please take care of young children at ‘Mind the Troll’ cache, which lies just past Teigh. You will see what we mean, when you get there. The route can also be found on OS Explorer map No.234, and 247.
This cache replaces the one that Roger Rabbit originally placed and then archived some time ago. We hope that this one will not go missing again.
