Is There A Covered Bridge Up There? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

petroypa70: The covered bridge is no longer there due to a flood, so I guess this cache as long as it is not there, I might as well archive it. If someone else wants to place one here have at it. Happy caching!

Geocache Description:

Cache is an easy P&G - if you want to see the covered bridge it is located approximately 0.9 miles up Coryland Hill Road on the south side of the road.
Cache may be handicapped accessible.

Located just outside Columbia Cross Roads, on Rt 14 - easy pickup of a cache, but if interested in covered bridges, as I am, you may be interested to know that there is a private covered bridge just up the road on the left behind the pond. BYOP for the cache.

NOTE - BRIDGE IS PRIVATE!! - Beware of high speed traffic on this road - DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! - There has been a fatality at this location with a car ending up in the pond next to the bridge.

Bridge is noted in registry of covered bridges and romantic shelters as Marilyn McClure Bridge #38-08-e. At one time there were 5 bridges over this creek on the way to Coryland Hill, as there used to be a road along the creek. The valley was called Wolfe Hollow. One of the first settlers was Michael Woolf (later changed to Wolf, and later Wolfe). He settled here in the early 1800's on 1000 acres. The bridge was built in 1999 by a 73 year old man at the same location where the previous bridge had existed. The bridge is 56 feet long.

Continue past the residence, do not turn around at this location if bypassing the covered bridge.

The owners have granted permission to tell about the bridge and the area - Mrs. McClure has shared a lot of history on the area and I thank her for that - I have taken pictures of this bridge in the past but it is nice to be given some history of the area.
