Geocache Description:

The other half of this covered bridge located in North Kingsville cannot have a cache due to its close proximity to an existing cache, but this one certainly deserves one. Easy one to get, stealth is required, use hint and grab when best available.

Originally known as Foreman Road Bridge or Old Eagleville Bridge, and listed as 35-04-17 on the Ohio registry of covered bridges, spanning 130 feet in Eagleville, Ohio, this bridge was originally built in 1862, and was at one time the oldest known covered bridge in Ohio. It was a Town Truss design, named after Ithiel Town, a well known architect of covered bridges.

In 1972 Ashtabula County decided to replace this bridge and it was sold to the highest bidder for five dollars. The bridge was carefully dismantled and the timbers preserved. Photographs were taken of the very carefully marked cross beams to insure that it would be reconstructed correctly.

For three years the bridge lay in storage while awaiting the development of plans and the approval of permits. Originally the business located here was established in 1972 in an old house, and then moved in 1975 to a new building in North Kingsville, Ohio. That required one half of the original Foreman Road Bridge, and then in 1977 a second business was built with the remaining half in Andover, Ohio. Only the original wood was used in the dining areas.

This covered bridge is no longer a registered bridge, but is listed as a “novelty” and numbered 35-04-(a in the registry of Ohio covered bridges, while the North Kingsville covered bridge is listed as 35-04-(b.

I have taken pictures of Ashtabula’s covered bridges in all seasons over the last 30 years and would usually end up at the other half of this covered bridge in North Kingsville before heading back to Painesville. Now I have two hobbies - Bridgin' and Cachin' - and doing both with a Passion!

Come visit all of Ashtabula County's 18 covered bridges, all having a geocache located on or near them - what better way to visit these bridges than to grab a cache along the way - Thanks JackalopeJim for placing and maintaining caches at these bridges. There is a covered bridge festival in Jefferson the second weekend of October - if you are a fan of these covered bridges, please come and enjoy that as well!

Hidden with permission of Owner. Come and discover one of the many non-registered covered bridges that gives you More Than Just A Covered Bridge.......

Congrats to Falamazar and Karen1962 for a FTF!!!
