This cache leads you to an archaeological excavation. The remains of the Basilica Ágios Sofrónios (a 6th century basilica) are visible. You will see the remaining columns and a beautiful mosaic of the former chapel as well as other archaeological findings. The whole area is fenced in but you may still have a great view on the excavation.
If you follow the track to the given reference point (N40°12.419 E23°40.853) you will arrive at Ágios Geórgios. This basilica is built on an early christian basilica - the base wall is still visible. Just in plain sight are two early christian tombs - the closing stones of those tombs are there as well.
The cache is a small petling like tube. You may need some kind of tool to get the cache. And please take care about muggles and put the cache in the same direction back as you retrieved it - if not the next cacher will have a bigger problem to get it...
Very special thanks to GregoryGR who agreed to perfom maintenance to this cache if necessary!
Small note on cache maintenance: A local friend as well as local geocacher GregoryGR will assist me. Thanks!
