Humber Photo Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

yellow.warbler: I think this one has had a good run. It's getting too hard to maintain in its former glory. Opening up the area for new caches.

Geocache Description:

Thic cache is located by the beautiful Humber River, and is a short walk from Eglinton & Scarlett, which makes it easily accessible by public transportation. There is plenty of free parking available on residential streets off the south-west corner of the intersection.

The area surrounding Humber River is a welcome home for many birds, especially during migration season.  This cache was placed during the fall, and during a short amount of time we saw Chickadees, a Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-breasted Nuthatches, Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned Kinglets, a Bluejay, Goldfinches, Red-winged Blackbirds, Grackles, a hawk, a Northern Flicker, and several varieties of woodpecker.  During the spring it is also not uncommon to see Egrets, Herons, and Double-crested Cormorants fishing in the river.  It is also a significant corridor for migrating song birds and butterflies in the spring.  More than 60 species of fish live in the river as well, and during the fall the salmon can be observed jumping upstream over small manmade waterfalls!  "FishJump" is a good place to see this.

I had difficulty getting an accurate reading so the coordinates are an average of several.  You may need the hint(s) if your GPS is bouncing as much as mine was.  I have provided 2 hints; the first one gets you in the general area if your GPS is just going crazy, and the second should get you right to the cache if you're really stumped. There is spacing between the hints so you don't accidentally see the second one if you don't want to. :)  Not recommended for very small children; please watch your footing, especially in the winter.   I would not attempt this cache when it is icy.

The contents of this cache are a bit different than most.  The cache contains a photo album with 100 photos of the beautiful things to be seen in Ontario and beyond, all taken by me.  Photography is a hobby of mine and I used to try and sell the photos at craft fairs and online but never made very much.  Since I have so many leftover photos sitting around in boxes I thought it would be a good idea to give them away as cache swag and send them all off to good homes.  The back of each photo says where it was taken.  You may leave anything in exchange for a photo or 3.  If you see a photo you really like but don't have anything to trade, please feel free to take it as well. Let me know in the log what photos you've taken and why - I'm always curious. :) (Update as of May 2, '13: container currently has about 10 small photo cards, will be updated with a proper photo album some time in the near future). (Update as of Sep. 6, '17 - this location gets too wet for photos, so I won't be replacing them. Keeping the description here for historical purposes). Prize for the FTF is a ziploc bag with 35 different photos. Enjoy!
