Geocache Description:

The Green Lantern was first seen in 1940. The Green Lantern derives his power from a special ring. The stronger the will power of the ring bearer, the more powerful the effects of the ring. This basis to the Green Lantern's power has given writers a lot of flexibility, not only in the specific powers of the ring, but also with regards to who wields the ring. There have been several individuals take on the persona of the Green Lantern, but three main characters stand out.

Alan Scott was the Golden Age Green Lantern. He had received a magic lantern and from that he crafted the ring of power. The ring had to have its batteries recharged every 24 hours by touching it to the lantern, and it could not affect anything made of wood. Comic book sales declined after WWII and the Green Lantern went out of print making his last apperance in 1951.

In the late 50's DC revived several superhero comics, ushering in the Silver Age of comics. This time the Green Lantern was Hal Jordan, test pilot given a ring of power by an alien. He was the earth's representation in an interspace Green Lantern Corps. The Silver Age Green Lantern was the first superhero to have a family, and Hal Jordan became a founding member of the Justice League of America. It's interesting that in some stories, Hal Jordan met the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, living on an alternative earth. They became friends and would ocassionally come to each other's aid. Hal was also close friends with Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash. Jordan's rign had a slight imperfection and could not affect anything yellow.

In the late 60's things got a bit confusing. Hal Jordan had a backup, Guy Gardner, who would spend much time in a coma, but would later come back to serve part time as the Green Lantern. Then in the 70's Gardner was replaced by John Stewart, and the Green Arrow also joined the team. Finally, with Hal Jordan retired for a while, Kyle Rayner would become the Green Lantern. There were times when 4 different personas would appear in various Green Lantern story lines. Alan Scott's daughter even had a power ring for a while, appearing as the superhero Jade.

The specific powers of the ring are never clearly defined, but it seems to be able to do whatever the will power of the bearer can force it to do. These powers have included time travel, flight faster than the speed of light, force fields, plasma bolts, translation of any language, invisibility and telepathy, just to name a few. Obviously, its powers were only limited by the story writer's imagination.

The cache is a quick park and grab at the Hendricks County Visitor Information Center. The hide is a good size Lock 'n Lock that can hold trade items and TB's.
