Formerly 1 of 10 in the Monty Python and the Holy Grail Series. Now a stand alone cache.
This movie review from Rotten Tomatoes says it all!! From its opening multi-language titles (that sure looks like Swedish) to the closing arrest of the entire Dark Ages cast by modern-day bobbies, Monty Python and the Holy Grail helped to define "irreverence" and became an instant cult classic. This time the Pythonites savage the legend of King Arthur, juxtaposing some excellently selected exterior locations with an unending stream of anachronistic one-liners, non sequiturs, and slapstick set pieces. The Knights of the Round Table set off in search of the Holy Grail on foot, as their lackeys make clippety-clop sounds with coconut shells. A plague-ridden community, ringing with the cry of "bring out your dead," offers its hale and hearty citizens to the body piles. A wedding of convenience is attacked by Arthur's minions while the pasty-faced groom continually attempts to burst into song. The good guys are nearly thwarted by the dreaded, tree-shaped "Knights Who Say Ni!" A feisty enemy warrior, bloodily shorn of his arms and legs in the thick of battle, threatens to bite off his opponent's kneecap. A French military officer shouts such taunts as "I fart in your general direction" and "I wave my private parts at your aunties." Rabbits are a particular obsession of the writers this time around, ranging from the huge Trojan Rabbit to the "killer bunny" that decapitates one of the knights. Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin collaborated on the script and assumed most of the onscreen roles, while Gilliam and Jones served as co-directors. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi..... Tim the Enchanter: I... am an enchanter. King Arthur: By what name are you known? Tim the Enchanter: There are some who call me... 'Tim'? King Arthur: Greetings, Tim the Enchanter. Tim the Enchanter: Greetings, King Arthur! King Arthur: You know my name? Tim the Enchanter: I do. [zoosh] You seek the Holy Grail! King Arthur: That is our quest. You know much that is hidden, O Tim. Tim the Enchanter: Quite. [pweeng boom] [clap clap clap] Sir Robin: Oh. King Arthur: Yes, we're-- we're looking for the Holy Grail. Our quest is to find the Holy Grail. Knights: Yeah. Yes. It is. It is. Yeah. Yup. Yup. Hm. Mm. King Arthur: And so, we're-- we're-- we're looking for it. Sir Bedevere: Yes, we are. Sir Galahad: Yeah. Sir Robin: We are. We are. Sir Bedevere: We have been for some time. Sir Robin: Ages. Sir Bedevere: Umhm. King Arthur: Uh-- uh, so, uh, anything that you could do to, uh-- to help... would be... very... helpful. Sir Galahad: Look, can you tell us where-- [boom] King Arthur: Fine. Um, I don't want to waste any more of your time, but, uh, I don't suppose you could, uh, tell us where we might find a, um-- find a, uh-- a, um-- a, uh-- Tim the Enchanter: A what...? King Arthur: A g-- a-- a g-- a g-- a-- a g-- Tim the Enchanter: A grail?! King Arthur: Yes. I think so. Sir Robin: Y-- y-- yes. King Arthur: Yes. Sir Galahad: Yup. Knights: That's it... Tim the Enchanter: Yes! Sir Robin: Oh. King Arthur: Oh. Thank you. Sir Robin: Ahh. Sir Galahad: Oh. Fine. King Arthur: Thank you. Sir Robin: Splendid. Knights: Aah... [boom pweeng boom boom] King Arthur: Look, um, you're a busy man, uh-- Tim the Enchanter: Yes, I can help you find the Holy Grail. Knights: Oh, thank you. Oh... Tim the Enchanter: To the north there lies a cave-- the cave of Caerbannog-- wherein, carved in mystic runes upon the very living rock, the last words of Olfin Bedwere of Rheged... [boom] ...make plain the last resting place of the most Holy Grail. King Arthur: Where could we find this cave, O Tim? Tim the Enchanter: Follow. But! Follow only if ye be men of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived! Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth. King Arthur: What an eccentric performance.
