"SIERRA VISTA — It’s a small cemetery but an important part of local history, both in Cochise County and for Sierra Vista, which grew up around it. Friday, the Fry Pioneer Cemetery, a little south (it is north) of Fry Boulevard and between Sixth and Seventh streets nearly encapsulated by small businesses, was dedicated as a National Historic Place. A few years ago, the one-acre burial ground, which holds the estimated remains of nearly 200 people, was on the verge of being sold. A business would have been built on the site." Bill Hess - Sierra Vista Herald, Jul 29, 2011 This cache qualifies for the Cochise County History Challenge. If you would like a cemetery tour, contact Tom Shupert at 520-227-3676.
