Geocache Description:

A series of 51 caches predominantly on paths round the perimeter of Lyme Park. There are several possible start and finish points. Total distance is 9 miles. This Time Gentlemen Please cache celebrates the days when this ex-Robinsons house was the most welcoming pub in the village.

'Round Lyme' is a 51 cache series placed predominantly on footpaths round the perimeter of Lyme Park.

Lyme Hall and estate is well known as Pemberley the home of Mr Darcy (played by Colin Firth) in a BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'.
As a result the House and Grounds are much visited but the local Public Rights of Way are also impressive in their own right.

Much of the series affords stunning vistas, on sunny clear days, and should appeal to those geocachers with six or so hours to spare and who enjoy a 9 mile hike. As well as the hike there is something for a variety of 'Anoracs', with 51+ smileys for the frantic geocachers, one trig point just off the circuit at Sponds Hill for trig point grabbers, two 'Gold' post boxes for the new age baggers.

If 51 caches is not enough Khoomfay's 'Do you know your way to Lyme Park?' will add another 6, and Kjedds 'Bridges and Stiles' another 10!

N.B. Recent tightening up of the 'No ground breaking rule' has had an impact on the availability of good hides, and as a result many of the caches are in 35 mm film pots, in rather predictable locations; we can't have everything!

No caches are placed on National Trust land but note that for safety reasons the gates to the park are locked at 1800 hrs. Don't get locked in!

Parking:- There are several places for parking around Disley hence the series numbering. There are two convenient parking spots on Mudhurst Lane Higher Disley near either #41 or #46. There is limited parking near West Park Gate near #21, but this is very popular with walkers, so possibly the best parking for the series is at Nelson Pit near the 'Boar's Head' Higher Poynton.

There are geocachers and those who have a gps; the CO is in the latter group. The urban caches were included for the benefit of the CO and those family cachers whose children are too small to brave the harder parts of the circuit. Those who resent these then don't do them. If you think there are too many caches in the circuit, leave alternate caches out and do them some other time. Simples.
