Pennhurst was a school for the mentally challenged. Opened in 1908 it was closed in disgrace in 1987. The buildings are of a neo-classic style and considered historically significant regardless of the level of their current deterioration. Now the property is used for a controversial haunted entertainment attraction.
Congrats ProffessorBenson on FTF, it's an honor and fitting that you should be FTF!
This cache is on the boarder of the property of A.C. Miller Concrete. The property has historic import to Spring City (and to some extent the rest of the civilized world). It was here that in 1851 a certain Hugh Burgess took control of the fledgling paper company and perfected his process of manufacturing paper with wood. Until this time paper was made by a more expensive process using rags. The Burgess process revolutionized the paper making industry. After Burgess' death in 1892, the American Wood Paper Company went bankrupt. The property remained vacant for 10 years before the Pennsylvania Shafting works moved into the factory. 20 years ago A.C. Miller Concrete products purchased the property. One very interesting point upon his arrival to the United States, Burgess purchased a mansion in Manayunk, tore it down to build a new one which he prophetically named "Pennhurst". Please hide the same if not better as found. Unfortunately the new container has no room for goodies!
