My standard peanut butter container Once you find the cache, follow the trail to the north and look to the east, you'll see an old chimney (of the Franklin #2 Boiler). Very near to private property, watch your step. Continue along the trail to the SE and you'll find the ruins of the original hoisthouse, and then the newer, larger hoisthouse. The concrete cap is over the shaft, the large foundations are from the rockhouse.
This is the Albany and Boston Mining Co's mine, which created Boston Pond, a nearby stamp mill, and created a town. In 1860, the company started, but failed. Then taken over by the Peninsula mine, which also failed. In 1895 sold to the Franklin mine, called the Franklin Jr.,( also known as the Franklin Jr. #2 shaft) which lasted many years. (3 Franklin Jr. shafts). I came in from the south by Boston Pond, on a spur line off the old RR track (now ATV/snowmobile trail). Most of the land to the north is private, do not know if you can get to cache from the north. Location of trailhead is included in cache, drive to the boat landing and along the shore till you find the trailhead.
