Geocache Description:

One of six caches placed near a walkway/path that runs alongside the Enler River in Comber.

History

The Enler (or Inler) river originates in the Holywood and Castlereagh Hills. From there, it flows through Dundonald and onto Comber, before finally entering Strangford Lough at Island Hill on the Comber Estuary.

The river is famed for producing beautiful, hard-fighting sea and brown trout and is best described as a brook-style water, with its width never really exceeding a fisherman’s easy cast.

Compared to River Walks you might do elsewhere, it’s fair to say that this one isn’t the prettiest but it’s often overlooked and these caches will hopefully offer you the opportunity to discover parts of Comber you’ve never been to before.

Ground Zero

GZ is located along a cycleway/footpath on the Newtownards Road on the outskirts of Comber town centre. It's like a prelude to the Comber Greenway which starts further along. The Inler River flows under a bridge nearby and out into Strangford Lough. Perhaps I'm showing my age but I remember when this area was just a path with fields either side. In order to alleviate the gridlock in Comber town centre though, this area was developed to become what's now locally known as 'the Comber by-pass,' which officially opened on 14th October 2003.The cache has been placed in line with the ‘Leave No Trace’ principles and should be a relatively easy find.

The Cache

The cache is something a little different, odds are a couple/team will overcome the problem facing them at GZ quicker than a solo cacher. To claim this particular find, you MUST sign the log so please be sure to bring a pen/pencil. A pair of tweezers would come in most useful too. Please be sure to leave the cache as you find it, this is important so that the next geocacher can 'enjoy' the same experience.
