Geocache Description:

This easy "cache and dash" style geocache celebrates a major sporting event which has come to Caerphilly in 2011, 2012 and 2013 - the exciting Tour of Britain cycle race.

Top British and international cyclists including Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish have cycled within a few feet of this location on gruelling ascents of Caerphilly Mountain. The climb is known as a Category 1 ascent, when the hill climbers battle to win the famous "King of the Mountain" polka-dot jersey. This location was a wonderful viewing point for the race, and various members of the Jalug family have come to watch from here.

There is good parking nearby, and the only real challenge to this straightforward cache is to avoid being seen by muggles in parked cars. The cache is a similar size to a 35mm film container, but only room for a log and pencil, and no room for trackables. Please be careful to replace natural cover carefully when returning cache, to keep it hidden. Whilst in the area, why not enjoy a stroll in the forest or a short walk to the top of Caerphilly mountain...

Some sad news was that the Tour did not return to Caerphilly town in 2014, because apparently Caerphilly County Borough Council wanted to save money by not hosting this stage that year! But the good news for cycling was that a major closed road cycling event, the Velothon Wales, took place on Sun June 14th 2015, with a route once again incorporating the tough Caerphilly Mountain ascent, with approx 15,000 riders passing by this very cache, including pro riders and amateurs!
