Geocache Description:

His real name was Johan Manfred Forsgren but most locals didn't know that. To them he was old Johnny Green, a friendly character who lived on the Riverside dike for decades.

Johnny came to Hoquiam in the 1920's and, using salvaged lumber, built a one room cabin over the Hoquiam river on an old railroad right of way belonging to ITT Rayonier. Years later, the property owners waived the $36 yearly rent and granted him permission to live there as long as he desired. He stayed until the early 1990's when old age and poor health finally forced him to move.

Locals fondly remember Johnny Green sitting near his door on an old lawn chair smiling and waving at passing traffic on Riverside Avenue. He was always glad to have company and, with a twinkle in his eye, welcomed all callers in a heavy Swedish accent...

As Johnny would have said, "T'anks fer comin' ta visit."

Note:
A photo of Johnny is posted below.
The shack was located at 1916 Riverside
(about 150 feet SE of the cache)
