I love shoe trees. Like fence lines with old ratty cowboy boots on the posts, a shoe tree is one of those things that is the definition of Rural American West.
In 2010, the Great Shoe Tree Massacre occurred in which 3 shoe trees I knew about (one in oregon and two in Nevada) were cut down. Just as you have the loss of shoe trees, new ones spring up to take their place.
The first time I passed here, I thought to myself, "this would be a great place for a shoe tree!" Low and behold, when I got closer I saw one or two pairs of tennis shoes hanging from a lower branch. Slowly, this tree is beginning to accumulate shoes, and one day will take its place as one of the elder statesmen of the shoe tree world!
