This cache is placed at the end of Brightlingsea's old railway line, close to where the swing bridge to Alresford used to be. You will find yourself opposite Alresford creek with lovely views across the water. Please keep to the footpath and keep dogs on a lead.
This cache is placed near to the end of the Brightlingsea part of the old railway line that used to run from Wivenhoe to Brightlingsea and opened on 17 April 1866 The railway line was temporarily closed on 1 February 1953 following severe flood damage but was not reopened until 7 December that year, it was eventually axed in 1964. The line has all gone now and there is a footpath in its place which is part of what is known to locals as jog, walk, run this route runs from All Saints Church which is at the top of the hill as you enter Brightlingsea down to the old railway line and along the coastline to Batmen’s Tower. This route is about 5 miles long the ground is a bit uneven in places and not suitable for buggies. There are lots lovely views and wildlife along this pleasant, quite walk. This cache has been placed on land owned by the Environment Agency and they have been kind to allow us permission to place this cache here with the understanding that if they request us to remove it at any time we will. This land is also a Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and Natural England has also been kind to allow us to place this cache here. This is an important feeding and roosting area for wildfowl and wading birds so please keep dogs on a lead at all times as to not disturb the wildlife and the grazing sheep. This cache has been placed within 2 meters of the footpath so you will not need to wonder from the footpath You are looking for a small screw type capsule with only a log inside so please bring a pen to sign the log
