[ITA] Il parco di Villa Revoltella si estende per circa 50.000 mq, quasi totalmente in pendenza, nel rione Chiadino-Rozzol. Un tempo proprietà del Barone Pasquale Revoltella, imprenditore e finanziere tra i personaggi più autorevoli e rappresentativi della Trieste imperiale, fu da questi donato alla Città di Trieste per lascito testamentario nel 1869. Tra il 1854 e il 1858, il Barone Revoltella vi costruì uno chaletdi impronta svizzera, che fino agli anni ’70 del secolo veniva utilizzato quale dimora estiva del primo cittadino di Trieste.
La storia del Barone merita di essere raccontata. Nato a Venezia nel 1795 da una famiglia di commercianti di carni che nel 1797 si trasferì a Trieste dopo la caduta della Repubblica, nel 1835 fondò una ditta per le importazione di legnami e granaglie che si affermò rapidamente, raggiungendo in breve tempo una certa disponibilità finanziaria che gli consentì di acquisire diverse partecipazione in molte società triestine. Fu uno dei primi azionisti delle Assicurazioni Generali, consigliere d'amministrazione del Lloyd Austriaco e si impegnò fortemente per l'apertura del Canale di Suez, ritenendolo determinante per lo sviluppo economico di Trieste, strettamente legata ai traffici marittimi. Per il suo contributo determinante, il Barone Revoltella venne nominato vicepresidente della Compagnia universale del Canale di Suez nel 1859.
[ENG] The park of Villa Revoltella covers about 50,000 square meters, almost entirely on a slope, in the district of Chiadino-Rozzol. Once owned by Baron Pasquale Revoltella, entrepreneur and finance man among the most influential and representative of the imperial Trieste, it was by him donated to the City of Trieste at the moment of his death, in 1869. Between 1854 and 1858, Baron Revoltella built in the park a Swiss style chalet, until 1970 used as a summer residence of the Mayor of Trieste.
The story of Baron deserves to be told. Born in Venice in 1795 in a merchant family that in 1797 moved to Trieste after the fall of the Venetian Republic, in 1835 he founded a company for the import of timber and grains, quickly reaching financial resources that enabled him to acquire different participations in many companies. He was one of the first shareholders of Assicurazioni Generali, board member of the Austrian Lloyd and wad strongly committed to the opening of the Suez Canal, considering it crucial for the economic development of Trieste, closely related to maritime trade. For his decisive contribution, Baron Revoltella was appointed Vice-President of Universal Society of the Suez Canal in 1859.
