We discovered this gully a few months after restoration work began in 2012 & had a lot of fun exploring here. So much so, we thought we'd place a couple of caches to help others find this hidden spot.
Tamahere Reserve in Tauwhare Rd has been neglected for years, becoming over-run by invasive plant species and, even worse, plagued with dumped rubbish. A few volunteer locals have taken on the challenge of clearing & re-planting the 4.6 ha gully but, be warned, at the time of cache placement, there is still a lot of work to be done. The paths and the stream/mud crossings are improving but are still basic & slippery at times); please take care. Enjoy exploring the reserve & maybe you could help with a little bit of CITO too?
One access point is from the side road; a rough path starts by a large pine tree, going down to the right before it zigzags left into the gully. Another access is directly off Tauwhare Rd: take care as it is off a very busy road with a steep path directly down into the gully.
The cache is a 200ml black container, hidden right by the path. If you step off the path, you've gone too far. Please re-cover carefully
