Edificate all'ombra del Monte Generoso, in una via a nord del Nucleo di Mendrisio, le vecchie Cantine di Mendrisio hanno in parte perso nel tempo la loro funzione tradizionale. Molti gli edifici privati, prevalentemente tramandati di padre in figlio. Vi sono tre "Grotti" dove è possibile godere del luogo e gustare tipici piatti nostrani, accompagnati da un buon bicchiere di Merlot o da una gazzosa.
Le Cantine sfruttano la roccia del Generoso mantenendo per tutto l'anno una temperatura e un'umidità relativamente stabili, ideali per conservare vino e alimenti.

The "Cantine" (Cellars) are situated at the foot of Monte Generoso, north of Mendrisio's old centre, but are now rarely used as cellars.
The buildings lining this street are mostly privately owned and handed down from father to son. There are three "Grotti" open to the public and providing an opportunity to enjoy the ambience of a typical Cellar. Here you can enjoy local dishes and a good glass of Merlot ore lemonade (gazzosa). The "Cantine guarantee relatively steady temperatures and humidity levels all year round, perfect to store wine and food.
