Aughrim Street Church regularly plays host to both filmstars and police and army personnel.
The wedding scene in Educating Rita was filmed in the church, while the surrounding streets have served as location for a multitude of movies including box office hits Michael Collins, Angela's Ashes, My Left Foot and The Boxer.
The church, officially known as The Holy Family but locally referred to as Aughrim Street, is the parish church for Arus an Uachtarain, Garda HQ, and the Irish Army GHQ.
Before the new Garda Training Centre was opened in Templemore in 1964, all recruits were trained at HQ. Every Sunday, they marched from base to the church. This was during a period when the church and state were synonymous.
The church itself is a Gothic-style structure, and is considered one of the finest on the island of Ireland.
The cache is a small plastic box, BYOP, and please replace carefully.
