WHERE: The Peter Pan Diner (located at the SE corner of Oakland Park Blvd. and Dixie Highway) Hopefully we will be able to use the back pub area, but this depends on availability and the size of the party
WHY: oracle is moving away from Florida
Some of you know him as oracle... others as Coleman... or LJ38... others as Hugo Nyow (this is incorrect by the way)... and then others may know him by his slave name: Rick... but what you call him does not matter, for he will answer to them all...
You may have only seen his name(s) on log sheets... or read one of his long-winded, sometimes angry sometimes funny 'Found It' logs... most likely you have seen his name in a 'DNF' log, as he has hundreds of those... or perhaps you have seen him in a picture... he is always the easiest one to spot...
Others may have gotten to know this strange little man... those brave and crazy enough to get that close to the fire... and those who have deserve a medal... or a pat on the back... or at least a cuddle...
But now the time has come for oracle to move on from South Florida, his home for the past nine years, and forge a new beginning somewhere else in this world... where he will end up only God knows...
This event gives us all one last chance to gather and say our goodbyes... or good riddance... or perhaps even hello for the first time...
It is a chance to share and bask in the great memories we have been blessed and fortunate to enjoy together, and a chance for oracle to say thank you one last time to all those who have made his life so much richer for being a part of it.
This life is so full of peril... so it is always better when you have friends who are willing to be swallowed up by such dangers right alongside you.
But yea, as we walk through the valley of the shadow of the DNF, we will fear no evil.
For even in the midst of such dangers, we are assured that we are always as well-prepared as we can be.
For there is no stronger blessing than having the strength of a friend there beside you along the journey.
And if by chance you are so lucky to have an impact in the lives of those who in turn have impacted you, then you are assured that they will tell your story even after you are gone.
And no matter what happens, you are assured that you have left your mark.
Saying goodbye is never easy, especially to those who matter the most to you. But in the end we all must say adieu at some point... and we can only hope that after we are gone our friends will be able to remember us still... even if they find someone else who is a better companion on the geocaching trails...
Don't worry if you cannot make it right at 4 PM, as we will be staying for several hours... hopefully everyone will be able to come through for even just a few moments in order to share in some last laughs. If you cannot make it there is always the monthly bowling event the following evening in Sunrise.
