Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches placed along the Gartmorn Lade path which follows the Lade from Forest Mill to Gartmorn Dam, a distance of about one and a half miles. The path is flat but can be muddy in places. At the time of placing, after a wet summer, boots or wellies were most suitable. I have cycled the path on my mountain bike many times but in wet conditions bikers should consider their environmental impact and refrain from making the path worse for walkers.

The Lade is around three hundred years old, being built in 1713 by John Erskine, the Earl of Mar. It carried water diverted from the Black Devon and was used to fill the reservoir at Gartmorn. In turn the reservoir was used to power the drainage of nearby mines.

On road parking is available at Forest Mill or in a car park if you visit the cafe. Alternatively you can approach from the east end of Gartmorn Dam.

This first (or last) cache is near one of the small weirs on the Black Devon. It is a 500ml tub.
Cache guardian has been nibbled slightly & some kind cacher has put him inside the tub. Please don't swap him but leave as part of the cache. Thanks.
