THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE:
This bridge serves as the centerpiece for THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE, a fireworks display and airshow, which kicks off the Kentucky Derby Festival each year. Over 600,000 people line both banks of the Ohio River that night. It is one of the largest annual fireworks displays in North America and has been held since 1990. The display exceeds 625,000 in attendance. Eight 400-foot barges launch the fireworks, provided by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, from both sides of the bridge and more fireworks are launched from the bridge itself. The breath-taking beauty of a 2,000 feet wide simulated waterfall is a crowd favorite.
THE CACHE:
Please be CAREFUL doing the cache. The safest parking is at the Southern Indiana Visitors Center (please wear sunglasses when viewing this building). Alternately, you may park at the waterfront in Louisville. The cache is on the EAST SIDE of the bridge so plan ahead accordingly. NO CLIMBING IS REQUIRED.
REMEMBER: SAFETY FIRST. STAY ON THE SIDEWALK AT ALL TIMES. DO NOT LEAN OVER THE RAIL.
