A number of years ago, there was a cache in this location right off the red trail named Purple Rock that stymied me a number of times. I always thought that the last finder ate it It was eventually archived without me being able to find it
While in the park last weekend with my sons, I decided to replace it since it is a nice location that is relatively cache-free. Easiest access is from the west Tourne park entrance off of Old Boonton Rd. Round-trip from the parking to the cache via the red trail is about 1.5 miles. It is an especially pretty walk in the fall when the leaves have turned.
The purple rock is colloquially known as puddingstone and this particular type is known as Schunemunk Puddingstone and is only found in northern New Jersey and southern New York.
