The Lost Gypsy Gallery of Curios is an old green 1951 Leyland bus that has been converted into a unique gallery located in the heart of the Catlins. Owner and imagineer, Blair Somerville, is an inventor who crafts hand-wound gadgets and gizmos otherwise known as automata. All pieces are handcrafted, made from recycled and found objects, and range in size. His larger, more complicated works of whimsy may be enjoyed for a small $8 fee in the Winding Thoughts Theatre (of sorts) - an experience not to be missed. There is also a vibrant and inviting courtyard to rest and unwind in whilst enjoying a delicious coffee or tea, and complimentary wi-fi with your purchase.
The Lost Gypsy Gallery of Curios
Hours: Summertime 10am until 5pm, closed on Wednesdays. The gallery is closed in winter - from late April to late October, but the outdoor automata and this cache are available for your enjoyment all year round!
Cache is Placed with permission.

A short backstory of the ownership of this cache: hidden in 2012 by a Latvian geocacher - Snow, - temporarily living in NZ at the time. I had met him and found some other caches of his, as I'm a geocacher from Latvia too and been in NZ since 2016. But I had no idea he had hidden one here in NZ until the NY eve of 2021 when I found this and only realized the CO, when logging later. He had put an adoption notice on the cache page, as he was not in NZ anymore, and it seemed quite fitting that I take it on as another fellow Latvian.
