Helper was settled in 1881 by Teancum Pratt, it was incorprated in 1907 and became a city in Oct-1915, and was named for the helper engines on the railroad. Helper is at the mouth of Price Canyon, along side the Price River on the eastern side of the wasatch plateau. Chinese laborers were brought in to work at the mines and railroad. Helper along with Price,was becoming the center of Carbon County coalfields providing service functions to the coal camps. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad came into town in 1881-82. Today the population of Helper is 2,025 people.
