The Rotorua Lakefront Walkway merges with the Motutara Point carpark. Most come for the views of the wider Rotorua area and it's a great place to come and unwind. You might want to bring your lunch or sit and eat your fish and chips... Just be wary of the gulls.
Motutara Point is at the eastern end of the Rotorua Lakefront Walkway. Access can be gained by either taking the lakefront walk, or by driving through the Government Gardens. This is a popular recreational area and there are always people about. Bring a camera, as there are lots of photo opportunities.
This is a very busy area and there are always people about. In recent times, a Pokemon Go Gym has been established nearby. The carpark is a popular destination for freedom camping and a general place for loitering. If you are going to visit this cache, be mindful that stealth is an expectation. If you think that approaching ground zone is too challenging, then give it a miss.
Motutara Point is home to many aquatic birds that can be noisy at different times in the day. As this environment is close to water, young people should be well supervised. Take a look at the little island just off shore. This special roosting place comes to life in the early evening, when the birds return to rest. Other points of interest include information panels and sculptures. Please locate these as your time permits.
The Cache: This cache should not be treated like a two-minute park and grab. It is located in a very high muggle area and could take every ounce of stealth to retrieve. You are looking for a small, lightly camouflaged pill bottle. It is clipped into the aerial roots of a small tree. When you find the cache, have a seat at the nearby table if it is vacant. Above all else, please look after the cache and its location. I'd rather not have to replace this hide in a hurry. Please bring your own pen/cil.
