MILLCHESTER State School is situated on the south-eastern side of Charters Towers and is the oldest school, opening in 1874. This primary school was moved to its current site in 1947, an 125 yr anniversary book was produced in 1999.
Charters Towers CENTRAL State School opened in 1875. Charters Towers Girls and Infants State School opened in 1882. In 1965 the Girls and Infants School and the Boys School amalgamated to become Charters Towers Central State School.
In 1998, the three local Catholic schools amalgamated to form COLUMBA Catholic College. They were: St. Columba's Primary School - founded in 1876 and St. Mary's College - founded in 1882 by the Sisters of Mercy. Mount Carmel College - was founded in 1902.
RICHMOND HILL State School opened on 9 September 1895, a book was written about the first 100 years, some early 1900's photos uncovered and 3/4 of Cachedin nq regularly attend here.
The School of MINES was opened in 1901; Captain Oliver Woodward from the film 'Beneath Hill 60' studied here for 3 years. The building has been restored and was near the old solution.
Charters Towers STATE HIGH School was one of Queensland's first six regional state high schools (also Bundaberg, Gympie, Mackay, Mount Morgan and Warwick) celebrated 100 years of schooling in 2012. All six officially opened as 'state high schools' between 29 Jan and 5 Feb 1912.
BLACKHEATH and THORNBURGH COLLEGE was the first educational boarding school in Queensland. Thornburgh founded College in 1919 and Blackheath in 1920, as a Methodist and Presbyterian boarding school. Since 1921, students from both Colleges have studied together, with a single principal since 1940.
ALL SOULS School for boys was established by the Bush Brotherhood of St Barnabas in 1920 as a memorial school to the fallen of World War 1. St GABRIELS School for girls was established by the Sisters of the Sacred Advent in 1921. By 1990 the two schools had merged on the All Souls' campus.
The first SCHOOL OF DISTANCE EDUCATION to open in Queensland was in Charters Towers in 1987. Using communication tools such as mail and telephone as well as audio-teleconferencing, video and the internet to cross the barriers of distance to provide distance schooling to students from Prep through to Year 12 and adults.

Originally this cache was a nano near the School of Mines Building. In June 2020, after more than 7 years it was moved closer to the listed coordinates and upgraded a size category. At the time of replacement it included a log book, pencil and unactivated trackable.
