Lace up you shoes, or grab your bike - we're going caching on the longest trail in Dallas- The White Rock Creek Trial! A 7.5 mile north-south trail that connects North Dallas to the tip of White Rock Lake. Cachers north of Interstate 635 can park at Valley View Park, bike the trail south to the lake, complete the lake loop and ride back for a scenic 25-mile trip. The trail is located adjacent to White Rock Creek, and links several parks that make up the White Rock Creek Greenbelt including Valley View Park, Anderson- Bonner Park, Orbiter Park, Northwood Park, Harry S. Moss Park, Fair Oaks Park, R. P. Brooks Park, Olive Shapiro Park, Flag Pole Hill and White Rock Lake Park trail. The WRC trail is concrete varying 8-12 feet wide and crosses several major streets.
The city has installed an Emergency Locator System consisting of 911 signs, each with a specific identification number. On the White Rock Creek trail they use the WRC designation. At each of the following coordinates you will find a WRC sign nearby. The list starts at the most northerly stage and is in order as you proceed to the south.
Start north at Valley View Park (N 35 55.645 w 96 47.129) and work south, or from the south - at White Rock Lake ( 32 51.043 w 096 43.723) and head north. I have associated each stage with a letter A - K. At some locations you will need the last two numbers, while others only require the last digit. After collecting the numbers, alphabetize your list and you should have certifiable coords. No tricks along the way, only use the WRC markers, terrain is basically flat and is accessible by wheel chair at each stage. I originally planned for an ammo can in the woods as the final, but in keeping with the character of this multi staged adventure, the final is also wheel chair accessible.
So why the D/T? 3 = could take up a good portion of an afternoon 3.5 = more than a 10 mile hike
