Geocache Description:

You must solve this puzzle to reveal the final coordinates

There is nothing notable at this location (which goes against what we are trying to achieve with our other placements). However, aside from being Tauranga's only letterbox cache, with all other things considered; it is different to other letterbox caches we know of (having a puzzle component attached), and we have placed it in an area with other caches nearby to make it worth the visit .

Parking is an issue. If you are travelling up the road: park before GZ and walk; if you are travelling down the road: you can park on the side of the road near the cache BUT...
WATCH OUT FOR THE BIG HOLE AT SIDE OF ROAD

We take for granted the postal services available to us today, but as our country was developing and commercially expanding during the nineteenth century, our rugged natural landscape limited the services provided. An overland mail route from Auckland to Wellington took around 3 weeks and was difficult and dangerous, and sometimes delivery was suspended for lengthy periods. Ships were the mainstay of a postal service during the 1850’s, and later horses, with rail significant in the 1880’s particularly in the South Island. Motor vehicles were first used in 1909.

Many small farming settlements in New Zealand have relied on the rural delivery service for over a hundred years. Rural mail was first introduced in 1905. Country people could now post and receive mail, and obtain postal notes and money orders. Prior to this, if you lived beyond the postman’s delivery area, you had to pick up your own mail from the nearest post office. It was around this time that a “universal” penny postage rate was introduced for inland surface mail.
