Famous Captain series
Captain James Cook was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer and captain in the British Royal Navy. In three voyages, he sailed thousands of miles across largely uncharted areas of the globe and mapped lands from New Zealand to Hawaii in the Pacific in greater detail and on a scale not previously achieved before. He also explored the North Pacific coast on his third and last voyage and due to his charts, put the NW coastline on world maps for the first time.
He displayed a combination of seamanship, superior surveying and cartographic skills, physical courage and an ability to lead men in adverse conditions.
He was killed at the age of fifty in the Hawaiian Islands during his third voyage in the Pacific in 1779.
