15th in a series of 17 honoring past and present mayors of Crosby, ND. Oscar Svungstu won the election of 1982, the battle of "old" names in Crosby. Incumbant Engberg having long time roots in Croby, and challenger Svungstu have relatives in the county back to homesteading times. The race was close, and the local newspaper followed a close and clean campaign for months before the election. Oscar held offce for 8 years until health concerns caused him to retire.
