Geocache Description:


These letterboxes feature wildlife and plants that live and grow in the Nature Park. If you are new to the Nature Park you may need a park map (available in the Interpretive Center or at any park entrance). The clues take you along the loop route counter-clockwise, but you can go clockwise for a challenge. All of the letterboxes are located within one or two steps of the trail. Remember to replace the letterboxes as you found them with lids tight and all contents within the plastic bags provided.

Douglas Squirrel


A forest of Douglas fir trees is just the right habitat for me. I am the tiny chatty squirrel with an orange-ish belly and my favorite meal is the seeds of Douglas fir cones. I’m not the tidiest of eaters and leave piles of fir cones at my favorite snack spots. Since fir trees are both food and shelter for me, I stashed my letterbox under a giant Douglas fir tree. Which one you ask? Continue down the Vine Maple until you reach the intersection with the big log and take a left onto the Elliot trail. Wander down the trail to my snack spot where the logs lining the trail meet a giant fir tree. Is the tree trunk bigger than your armspan? Stretch your arms to the other side of the trunk. There is a big root growing from the tree here. Look for my letterbox tucked under ferns behind this tree root just a couple feet away from the trunk.
