dkestrel: Fall is passing away and it is time for these caches to go into hibernation for a while. Look for new ones with new educational content as the seasons progress. Thanks to all who hunted these and to THPRD for letting us have one more way to enjoy this fabulous park!

Geocache Description:

These letterboxes feature wildlife and plants that live and grow in the Nature Park. If you are new to the Nature Park you may need a park map (available in the Interpretive Center or at any park entrance). The clues take you along the loop route counter-clockwise, but you can go clockwise for a challenge. All of the letterboxes are located within one or two steps of the trail. Remember to replace the letterboxes as you found them with lids tight and all contents within the plastic bags provided.

Chorus Frog- Big Pond

I am one of those tiny critters with a very loud voice! I lay my eggs in the ponds in February and by fall am a full grown frog, but no bigger than your thumb. In the spring, you’ll hear my buddies and I sing our chorus for hours in the evenings. This time of year, I make a short sound like this- “Krrrreeeek.” I like to stay near water so you’ll find me on the short trail down to the Big Pond.

To get to Big Pond, continue down Elliot Trail, bear right onto the Big Fir Trail and you’ll spot the Big Pond spur on the left just before the boardwalk. About 10 steps before the viewpoint bench, look for the leaning tree trunk on the left covered in licorice ferns- my letterbox is at the base of this trunk hidden in some ferns.
