Geocache Description:

This geocache located on Tiger Branch in Highlands Hammock State Park. Tiger Branch runs through the highlands of the park and is part of the bike trail. This road is also often walked by visitors as it is NOT accessible by vehicle.

Bob White Quail get their name from their whistling call that sounds like they are call “Bob White”.  They are seen most commonly in family units, running and foraging on the ground.  When startled, a “covey of quail” will burst into a spontaneous “whirring” flight for only a short distance into an area of dense cover so that they can hide from their predators.  The parents will lead their new clutch of chicks around to learn to forage.  It is wonderful to watch them cross a walkway or road; one adult leads the way and the other parent brings up the rear, hustling the little stragglers to catch up with the rest.

This geocache is placed in Highlands Hammock State Park with the permission of park management. All locations must be approved by the Volunteer Geocache Coordinator Sarah Straub (DTISarah@gmail.com) and adhere to the guidelines set by the park for geocache placement.

Vehicles are not permitted to park on any roadway within the park boundary. All vehicles must park within designated parking areas. The park is open from 8:00AM until sundown, 365 days a year. The admission fees are as follows: $6.00 per vehicle. Limit 2-8 people per vehicle. $4.00 Single Occupant Vehicle. $2.00 Pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.
